Class A + by 2030 - Now in reach! Nineteen years ago we set out to shine the light on on waste we dump into the sea around Australia from coastal outfalls. We always believed there was a better way and now we have proved it. Over the past four years we’ve been working with stakeholders to build an understanding of the effluent discharged around Australia. It has including obtaining data provided by water authorities that has previously NEVER been released to the public. Constructively negotiating Australia’s maze of multiple water bureaucracies has been demanding and scientifically challenging labor of love, but our oceans deserve nothing less. Initially we were met with skepticism and distrust. One authority for example, suspicious of the research project, initially refused to give the location of the outfall claiming it would be vandalised by enraged “surfies and fishermen”. But we have built on our reputation of being an honest broker for the ocean and brought together a body of knowledge on Australia’s coastal outfalls that points a clear way forward for our oceans and increased water security along coastal Australia.
We have discovered that upgrading all Australia’s outfalls to Class A+ by 2030 (same quality the water from Melbourne's Eastern Treatment Plan (Gunamatta outfall) would not only protect our marine environment and provide a rainfall independent source of water but provide a net benefit to the Australia of between 12 billion to 28 billion dollars. It’s because you support Clean Ocean Foundation that we have got this far. With your continued support Australia can be A+ by 2030. Find the report here: |
