Education Programs

Clean Ocean Foundation invites school groups to learn about ocean pollution as well as effective and sustainable water use by booking a tour or guest speaker.

Our education program, headed by Education Manager Dr Jacqui Salter, incorporates objectives taken from the current Victorian Curriculum Standards Framework.

We can tailor programs on request for primary school students, middle school students and VCE students, enabling access from various viewpoints, levels and relevancies.

In addition, Dr Salter has created two Clean Ocean Foundation Education Kits, aimed at students in Years 10-12:

  • Education Resource Kit #1 details Melbourne's urban water cycle and the Gunnamatta outfall's history, issues and outcomes
  • Education Resource Kit #2  is a comprehensive look at the wonders of Victoria's Westernport, its challenges and unique marine aspects.

The Kits are for sale separate to or packaged with our Education Tours/School Visits.

Education Tour

The program consists of a one hour interactive lecture (in classroom or at beach at the Gunnamatta Outfall) provided by a member of the Clean Ocean Foundation Education Team. Activities relating to different aspects raised throughout these talks are used to encourage students to engage with topics surrounding the environment, water awareness and the work that the Clean Ocean Foundation undertakes.

Medical Log a powerful tool

Thanks to all those who have responded with their stories of Port Phillip pollution-related illness. The Clean Ocean Foundation Port Phillip Beaches Medical Log is set to become a powerful tool in convincing governments at all levels to SPEND on adequate sewerage and stormwater solutions for Melbourne and surrounds. Eye or ear infections, rashes, bacterial skin infections (ulcerations) after swimming/sailing/diving? Let us know, with your details so that we can follow up: info@cleanocean.org

EPA lets us down

Well, we had all sorts of assurances from the Victorian EPA that this year's Beach Report program for the 36 beaches of Melbourne's Port Phillip Bay was going to be sooooo much better this year.

Then they simply didn't roster anyone to update forecasts for Boxing Day following big Christmas night rains ... and put thousands of Victorians at risk.

Not good enough!
